A gentle retelling of Mark 4:35–41 about Jesus, a storm, and learning to trust God when we feel afraid.
Mark 4:35–41
A Boat on the Sea
One evening, after teaching many people, Jesus said to His disciples,
“Let’s cross to the other side of the sea.”
The disciples climbed into a boat with Jesus. They pushed away from the shore, and soon the land grew smaller behind them. Jesus was tired after a long day. He found a quiet place in the boat, rested His head, and fell asleep.
Then the wind began to blow. The water grew rough, and waves splashed into the boat. The disciples had sailed many times, but this storm frightened them. The boat rocked, and they worried that they might not make it safely across.
Jesus was still asleep. The disciples woke Him and told Him they were afraid.
Jesus stood up and spoke to the wind and the waves. At once, the wind stopped. The water became calm, and the boat grew still.
The disciples looked at one another in amazement. They had seen Jesus help many people, but now they had watched Him calm a storm. They began to understand that Jesus was with them and that even the wind and sea obeyed Him.
“Peace, be still.”
