A Quiet Moment Before You Sleep

Before you close your eyes tonight, take a moment to settle.

You do not need to find perfect words. You do not need to pretend that today was easy.

Let your shoulders soften. Rest your hands. Take a gentle breath, and let it go.

Whatever this day has held, you can bring it to God.

Let us pray.

Heavenly Father,

The day is ending, and I come to You just as I am.

You know the conversations I am still replaying. You know the things I finished and the things I could not get done. You know what made me smile, what disappointed me, and what I have been carrying quietly.

Tonight, help me place all of it in Your hands.

Sometimes the house becomes quiet, but my thoughts grow louder. I remember something I wish I had said differently. I imagine problems that have not happened. I reach for tomorrow before this day has even ended.

Meet me here, Lord.

Help me return to this moment: this breath, this room, this simple prayer. Remind me that I do not have to solve every problem before I am allowed to rest.

Where I made a mistake today, give me the courage to make it right when the time comes. Where I have been unkind, forgive me and teach me a gentler way. Where I did my best and still felt that it was not enough, help me receive Your grace.

Thank You for the good I might otherwise overlook.

For the food that sustained me. For a small kindness. For a moment of laughter. For the strength to take another step when I wanted to stop.

Even in a difficult day, help me notice these gifts.

Father, I bring You the people I love.

Some are near enough for me to hear them sleeping. Others are far away, beyond my reach tonight. You know each one by name.

Comfort those who are grieving. Help those who are facing difficult decisions. Bring care and companionship to those who feel alone. Show me how to love them faithfully without believing that everything depends on me.

I bring You tomorrow, too.

The work waiting for me. The bills. The appointments. The conversation I would rather avoid. The answer I am hoping to receive.

Give me wisdom for what I can do, patience for what takes time, and the willingness to ask for help when I need it.

Psalm 4:8 reminds me that I can lie down in peace and sleep, trusting in Your care.

Let that trust become a quiet place within me tonight.

Ease the tension I am holding in my jaw, my shoulders, and my hands. Help my breathing settle naturally. Let this bed become a place of rest instead of a place where I judge myself for the day.

And if sleep comes slowly, help me be gentle with myself. I do not have to turn rest into another task to perform.

If I wake in the night, remind me that I can speak to You again. A few simple words are enough: “Father, I am here. Help me rest.”

Thank You for hearing this prayer.

As I close my eyes, I entrust this unfinished day to You. When morning comes, help me meet it with renewed strength and a willing heart.

For now, I will rest in Your loving care.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
