“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.” — Isaiah 40:31
There are seasons when you pray and nothing seems to happen.
You ask God for direction, but no answer comes. You pray for healing, but the situation remains the same. You ask Him to open a door, restore a relationship, provide what you need, or simply show you that He is near.
And still—silence.
In those moments, it is easy to wonder, God, are You listening? Have You forgotten me?
But God’s silence does not mean God’s absence.
A seed buried beneath the ground looks like nothing is happening. There is no movement that the eye can see. Yet beneath the surface, roots are forming. Life is beginning. Something is happening long before anything appears above the soil.
Sometimes God works in our lives the same way.
We see the silence. God sees the preparation.
We see the delay. God sees the right moment.
We see a closed door. God may be protecting us from something we cannot yet understand.
Waiting on God can be one of the hardest parts of faith because we want answers now. We want to know how the story ends. But faith often means trusting God while we are still standing in the middle of the story.
Think about Joseph. He was betrayed, sold into slavery, falsely accused, and forgotten in prison. For years, his circumstances seemed completely opposite to the promises God had placed in his life.
Yet God had not forgotten Joseph.
Every difficult chapter was quietly moving him toward the place God had prepared for him.
Your waiting season may not make sense today either.
Maybe you have prayed the same prayer hundreds of times. Maybe you are tired of hoping. Maybe you have watched other people receive the very thing you have been asking God for.
Do not mistake waiting for abandonment.
God can be working even when you cannot feel Him.
He can be arranging circumstances you cannot see. He can be changing another person’s heart. He can be strengthening your character. He can be protecting you from a wrong opportunity. He can be preparing something that would have been impossible yesterday.
And sometimes, the greatest work God is doing during the waiting is inside us.
We begin by asking God to change our circumstances.
Then slowly, while we wait, God changes us.
He teaches us patience. Dependence. Humility. Endurance. Trust.
Isaiah 40:31 does not promise that those who wait on the Lord will immediately receive everything they ask for. It promises something deeper: renewed strength.
Strength to keep believing.
Strength to get up tomorrow.
Strength to pray again.
Strength to trust God even before the answer arrives.
So if heaven feels quiet today, do not assume that nothing is happening.
Your story is still being written.
The God who was faithful yesterday has not changed today.
Keep praying. Keep walking. Keep trusting.
God may be silent for a season, but He is never inactive.
Prayer
Father, sometimes I struggle when I cannot see what You are doing. I become afraid that You have forgotten me or that my prayers are not being heard. Help me trust You in the silence. Give me strength while I wait and faith when I cannot see the answer. Teach me to believe that You are working even when nothing around me seems to be changing. I place my unanswered prayers, my fears, and my future in Your hands. Your timing is better than mine, and Your ways are higher than mine. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
